My husband and I got married in 2016 and started trying for a family in 2017. In December of 2017, my cycles became very irregular.

Later in 2018, I was referred to a fertility clinic in Calgary because we had been trying for so long and my periods were so irregular.

In January, 2019 we had our first appointment at the clinic, ran a bunch of tests and I was diagnosed with low ovarian reserve, one of the very few percent that has no cause. It's just the way it is. So, I started Letrozol and it took awhile to get the right dose so that I would ovulate. I had my first first IUI in November 2019 and it failed. The second IUI was in December and it failed as well. I had my third one in January 2020 and that cycle was very hard on me but managed to get though it.

That one worked and I ended up being pregnant with boy girl twins. Going though pregnancy and postpartum during the pandemic was extremely difficult and isolating. I gave birth to my twins in October 2020. We started trying again fully in January 2022 but we never used any kind of protection. I was happy I was ovulating on my own.

In March 2022, I had a chemical pregnancy which broke my heart so we were referred back to the clinic. We tried naturally for about a year with testing and being followed by our fertility doctor and I started using Letrozol again since I wasn’t ovulating consistently on my own. In July 2023, my benefits stopped covering Letrozol so I started paying out of pocket. In September 2023, we started doing IUI again. So far four have failed and we just did our last and final one. The cost is getting to be too much with all the monitoring that I need to have.
